Clear Path Careers
Clear Path Careers specialise in career coaching for adults and young people. Guidance is provided by Heather and David Trought who are qualified career professionals, each with over 25+ years' experience.
We offer a range of services to students, international students, adults and employers. We focus on the uniqueness of the individual and their values to enable the extraordinary.
What could that mean for you?
Assistance with understanding yourself and applying this to your present situation and the decisions you are facing. We specialise in those who maybe 'stuck'. You might be overwhelmed, confused, or not even knowing where to start when contemplating planning or developing your career. Clear Path Careers operate in Auckland and the Waikato. We also offer virtual appointments to clients.
Our Team
Heather Trought
Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (UK), plus an Honours degree (UK). BA (Hons) Geography and History.
Approved Smithells Professional.
Heather Trought, co-owner of Clear Path Careers has over 25 years' experience as a qualified Career Consultant, including senior roles within the UK Career Service, specialising in supporting schools to develop career programmes and providing training to career teachers. Heather is also a qualified secondary teacher with experience of managing career development in a range of high schools in Auckland. Her most recent experience being Head of Careers at St Peters School in Newmarket. Heather has been a Senior Lecturer at AUT on the Graduate Diploma in Career Development lecturing on Paper 4 – Organising for Career Development.
Heather is passionate about helping to transform lives and empower individuals through career decisions. She specialises in a range of assessments and in-depth coaching focusing on developing a clear path for career progression. She also provides professional supervision to other career practitioners.
Heather is a Professional member of CDANZ, the Career Development Association of New Zealand.
David Trought

David Trought is a career professional with 27 years' experience in the field of career planning.
He has been the Director of Careers for the University of Auckland and for six years David worked in New Zealand schools promoting trade careers in the primary industries. Most recently David was the Director of Careers for the Faculty of Business & Law at AUT University. He has also managed two university careers services in the UK.
A driving force throughout David's career has been supporting young people to make informed career decisions which fit with who they are, resulting in realistic outcomes.
He has a high profile within the career field and enjoys using his knowledge and contacts to help in a coaching context. His combination of university, industry and schools experience enables him to offer a breadth of advice encompassing the full spectrum of clients.
As a member of the Smithells® Group, New Zealand's first network of independent career professionals, David is fully trained in the use of the Smithells® Career Planning System, providing individual career planning to teenagers and young adults.
David is also a Professional member of CDANZ, the Career Development Association of New Zealand.
